- Constructive opposition and responsible ruling party strengthened the democracy in Delhi in just 49 days tenure of Kejriwal Govt
In Democracy, the people of the country
votes a party to form the government and at the same time also votes
another party or parties as the opposition party to keep a check on the
working of the party in power. In this situation, the opposition has the
same responsibility as the party in power. Constructive opposition
where helps the government run efficiently, it also helps in the
development of the country.
As we have seen the constructive
opposition in the Arvind Kejriwal’s regime in Delhi, the opposition was
forcing the ruling party to fulfill its promises that it made with the
people of Delhi during their election campaign. Responding to the
demands of opposition, the Delhi government fulfilled its maximum
promises that it made with the people of Delhi. No matter what the
attitude of the opposition in Delhi was? The Government of 49 days was
an ideal Government in which the opposition and the ruling party played a
vital role to strengthen the democracy.
Why such type of democratic exercise is
not seen in other parts of the country including the Union Government?
Is this the starting of a change? Whatever it may be but the traditional
or old parties have started talking of the respect and exercise of
democracy.
Why an MP or an MLA is not questioned by
the opposition party to fulfill his promises that he made with the
people of the area? Generally, the opposition keep silence over these
issues for 5 years and at the time of elections they go to the people
alleging about their MP or MLA that he had not fulfilled promises made
with them. In constructive opposition, the opposition along with the
people of the area must have pressurized the MP or MLA to fulfill his
promises during his term and get them fulfilled. That is real and
constructive opposition for the development of country. Same is
applicable in Panchayats, block samitis, zila parishads, state
governments and union government.
In present situation, the condition of
democracy in India is known to all, the behaviour of the opposition as
well as of the ruling party. I don’t feel right to explain it and vanish
the way of strengthening democracy that I had explained above. Thanks.
